- 1 cup Bengal Gram Dal
- 1 medium tomato (roughly chopped)
- 3-4 green chilli
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 small coconut

- 2 bay leaf,
- 1 dry red chilli
- as per taste Salt
- 2-3 tbsp mustard oil
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1/4 tsp hing
Steps to make to make Coconut Dal
- Soak Dal overnight and then put to boil in pressure cooker by adding 500 ml water + salt + roughly chopped Tomatoes for 6-7 whistles.
- Chop coconut into small small pieces.
- Assemble all ingredients
- Fry cashews to golden yellow and keep aside.
- In moderately heated pan / kadhai, add 1 tbsp mustard and fry coconut pieces till golden brownish and keep aside.
- In same pan / kadhai, add oil, add cumin seeds + bay leaf + dry chilli and allow to crackle (for few seconds), then add ginger + green chilli + hing and sauté till golden brown.
- Now pour the boiled Dal + turmeric + salt, mix well and give 2-3 times boil.
Water can be added at this stage if want loose gravy dal. - Now add coconut pieces + cashews + ghee and mix well. Simmer for 3-4 minutes and Dal is ready.
- Serve this delicious Dal with steamed rice or Paratha / Puri.
