Ingredients and spices that need to be Get to make Rice- chole curry (Chole-chawal):

  1. 1 cup raw chickpeas (soaked overnight)
  2. For boiling chickpeas add
  3. to taste Salt
  4. as per taste Whole spices like bay leaf, black pepper, cardamom
  5. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  6. as required Water covering 1 inch above the chickpeas
  7. For making masala paste
  8. 1 medium size onion
  9. 1 medium size tomato
  10. as required Whole spices(cardamom,2 cloves,few black peppercorns, cinnamon)
  11. as per taste Salt
  12. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  13. 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  14. 1 tsp chole masala
  15. 1/2 tsp sugar
  16. 1/ 2 tbsp coriander powder
  17. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  18. as required Water
  19. For making chole curry
  20. 30 ml oil
  21. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  22. Prepared masala paste
  23. 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  24. as required Boiled flavoured chickpeas with its water
  25. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  26. as Required Finely chopped coriander leaves

Steps to make to make Rice- chole curry (Chole-chawal)

  1. In a pressure cooker, boil chickpeas with the above-mentioned ingredients for 5 whistles. Let it cool and release pressure. Keep aside.
  2. Next for masala paste, in a blender jar, put the above-mentioned ingredients and make a paste.
  3. Next heat a kadhai with oil. Splutter cumin seeds. Put the prepared masala paste. Add ginger garlic paste. Mix and cook the masala
  4. As masala is cooked,it gives an awesome aroma. At this point, add the boiled chickpeas.
    Do not throw the water. We will add that later for making the gravy...that water is full of flavours and it also gives nice thickness to the curry.
  5. After adding chickpeas, mix well and let it cook for some time. Give a mix intermittently. Chickpeas get nicely combined with the masala.
    Next add the water of the boiled chickpeas. Put chopped coriander leaves and let it cook at medium heat.
  6. Next add garam masala. Now using a masher mash some chickpeas. It makes the gravy thick.
    Cook till the preferred consistency...
    It's ready... Garnish with some more coriander leaves.
  7. Serve hot...
